Work history
Koert Pretorius has held several key positions at Mediclinic. From April 2022 to March 2024, he served as the Group Chief Operating Officer, a newly created role on the Group Executive Committee. He was also the first chairperson of the Group Operations Committee, overseeing the commercial success of Mediclinic’s global divisions, including Mediclinic Southern Africa, Mediclinic Middle East, and Hirslanden in Switzerland, which together operate 74 hospitals, 5 subacute hospitals, 3 mental health facilities, 21 day-case clinics, and 23 outpatient clinics with over 33,100 employees and more than 600,000 inpatient admissions per year.
Prior to this, Koert was the Chief Executive Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa from January 2008 to March 2022. In this role, he was responsible for the commercial success of 50 hospitals, 10 day-case clinics, 4 dialysis units, Medical Human Resources, and ER24 throughout South Africa and Namibia, with an annual turnover exceeding R20 billion. He provided leadership and support to the company’s Executive Committee and senior leadership team.
From January 2003 to December 2007, Koert served as the Chief Operating Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa, overseeing the commercial success of all five regions across nine provinces with over 50 hospitals.
