Greg spent over a decade in executive leadership within one of the largest private hospital groups in Southern Africa, serving as Chief Human Resources Officer and culminating in his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa. Known for his integrity and sound judgment, he has a proven track record of directing enterprise-wide transformations, driving rapid post-pandemic financial recovery, and advancing value-based care and digital health systems at scale.
Earlier in his career, Greg held progressive leadership roles at BMW South Africa across legal, regional sales, and human resources, culminating in his appointment to BMW AG’s Global Top Executive Leadership group (OFK) — a distinction that reflects the global calibre of his executive capability and his ability to lead high-performance organisations in demanding, matrixed environments.
He currently serves as an Executive Director and Strategic Advisor at Nexus Healthcare Advisory Services, bringing board-level insight and operational depth to engagements across the healthcare ecosystem.

Work history
Greg’s executive career is anchored by more than 12 years at Mediclinic Southern Africa, where he served first as Chief Human Resources Officer and Chairperson of MHR before being appointed Chief Executive Officer. As CHRO, he shaped workforce strategy for more than 18,000 employees and led a significant digital HR transformation. As CEO, he oversaw a diversified healthcare portfolio comprising 50 hospitals, 15 Day Case Clinics, 12 Renal Clinics, 6 Mental Health facilities, 6 Sub-Acute facilities, ER24, and MHR, while steering post-pandemic recovery and delivering sustained growth to annual turnover exceeding R22 billion by FY2025.
Before joining Mediclinic, he served as Chief HR Officer and Chief Strategy Officer at the Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa, contributing to the institution’s “Fit for the Future” turnaround, governance reform, and digital modernisation, including service as Chair of the IT Steering Committee. Earlier, through Deloitte and his own ventures, he held consulting and entrepreneurial leadership roles spanning human capital, organisational effectiveness, renewable energy, and management consulting.
Earlier in his career, Greg built broad executive and commercial experience over a decade at BMW South Africa, serving in senior legal, regional sales, and various HR leadership roles, culminating in his appointment to the Board as Group HR Director. This breadth of responsibility, together with his work in talent development and workforce excellence, led to his appointment to BMW AG’s Global Top Executive Leadership group (OFK). Previously, he also held commercial and legal leadership roles at Rand Water on major infrastructure projects.

Work history
Koert Pretorius has held several key positions at Mediclinic. From April 2022 to March 2024, he served as the Group Chief Operating Officer, a newly created role on the Group Executive Committee. He was also the first chairperson of the Group Operations Committee, overseeing the commercial success of Mediclinic’s global divisions, including Mediclinic Southern Africa, Mediclinic Middle East, and Hirslanden in Switzerland, which together operate 74 hospitals, 5 subacute hospitals, 3 mental health facilities, 21 day-case clinics, and 23 outpatient clinics with over 33,100 employees and more than 600,000 inpatient admissions per year.
Prior to this, Koert was the Chief Executive Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa from January 2008 to March 2022. In this role, he was responsible for the commercial success of 50 hospitals, 10 day-case clinics, 4 dialysis units, Medical Human Resources, and ER24 throughout South Africa and Namibia, with an annual turnover exceeding R20 billion. He provided leadership and support to the company’s Executive Committee and senior leadership team.
From January 2003 to December 2007, Koert served as the Chief Operating Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa, overseeing the commercial success of all five regions across nine provinces with over 50 hospitals.
