Work History
André has spent more than 30 years with the Mediclinic Group, one of the world’s leading private hospital operators, progressing from specialist ICT roles to Group General Manager: Enterprise Architecture. During this time, he gained extensive experience across healthcare operations, clinical systems, enterprise platforms, digital transformation, and technology strategy in Southern Africa, the UAE, and Switzerland.
As Enterprise Architecture group lead, André was responsible for the governance and strategic direction of Mediclinic’s technology landscape across multiple countries. He established the Group’s enterprise architecture function, driving technology standardisation, governance, and investment decisions across diverse healthcare and regulatory environments.
A significant part of André’s career has focused on large-scale healthcare platform implementations and integration. He served as lead architect for the Electronic Health Record implementation at Mediclinic Middle East and guided SAP architecture across the Group. He also developed extensive expertise in healthcare interoperability, payer integration, and electronic claims ecosystems, enabling seamless information exchange between hospitals, funders, insurers, and clinical systems.
Throughout his career, André has worked closely with executive leadership, technology vendors, and business stakeholders on technology strategy, platform investments, vendor negotiations, and digital transformation initiatives. He is recognised for his ability to translate complex technology challenges into practical business solutions that improve operational efficiency, strengthen governance, and support long-term organisational objectives.

Work history
Koert Pretorius has held several key positions at Mediclinic. From April 2022 to March 2024, he served as the Group Chief Operating Officer, a newly created role on the Group Executive Committee. He was also the first chairperson of the Group Operations Committee, overseeing the commercial success of Mediclinic’s global divisions, including Mediclinic Southern Africa, Mediclinic Middle East, and Hirslanden in Switzerland, which together operate 74 hospitals, 5 subacute hospitals, 3 mental health facilities, 21 day-case clinics, and 23 outpatient clinics with over 33,100 employees and more than 600,000 inpatient admissions per year.
Prior to this, Koert was the Chief Executive Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa from January 2008 to March 2022. In this role, he was responsible for the commercial success of 50 hospitals, 10 day-case clinics, 4 dialysis units, Medical Human Resources, and ER24 throughout South Africa and Namibia, with an annual turnover exceeding R20 billion. He provided leadership and support to the company’s Executive Committee and senior leadership team.
From January 2003 to December 2007, Koert served as the Chief Operating Officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa, overseeing the commercial success of all five regions across nine provinces with over 50 hospitals.
